Kabelzertifizierung geht über einfache Durchgangstests hinaus. Für Ethernet verwenden zertifizierte Installateure Fluke oder ähnliche Prüfgeräte zur Überprüfung von Übersprechen, Rückflussdämpfung und Bandbreite nach TIA/EIA-Standards. Für USB und HDMI reichen Hersteller Proben bei autorisierten Prüflabors ein. Zertifizierung gibt rechtliche Berechtigung zur Verwendung des Standard-Logos auf der Verpackung.
