Le contenu HDR utilise une profondeur de couleur 10 bits ou 12 bits et des espaces colorimétriques plus larges (DCI-P3, BT.2020) pour produire des reflets plus brillants et des ombres plus profondes. HDR10, Dolby Vision et HDR10+ sont des formats courants. Les câbles doivent supporter la bande passante supplémentaire : HDMI 2.0 gère HDR à 4K@60Hz avec sous-échantillonnage 4:2:0, tandis que HDMI 2.1 permet HDR 4:4:4 complet.
