Un protocole pour transmettre des données de performance musicale (notes, vélocité, timing) entre instruments et ordinateurs.
MIDI transmet des messages de contrôle, pas l'audio réel. Le MIDI traditionnel utilise un connecteur DIN 5 broches à 31,25 kbaud. Le USB MIDI moderne fonctionne sur des câbles USB standard avec une bande passante beaucoup plus élevée. MIDI 2.0 ajoute une résolution plus élevée (vélocité 32 bits) et une communication bidirectionnelle, fonctionnant toujours sur des connexions USB-C.
