UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) अधिकतर घर और ऑफिस इंस्टॉलेशन के लिए मानक है। STP और S/FTP भारी EMI वाले वातावरण (कारखाने, power lines के पास) के लिए foil या braided shields जोड़ते हैं। Shielded cables को proper grounding चाहिए वरना वे actually noise बढ़ा सकती हैं।
