Docking Station vs Hub

Buying & Quality

A hub expands ports passively; a docking station adds power delivery, display outputs, and dedicated controllers for enterprise-grade connectivity.

USB-C hubs are compact and bus-powered, typically adding a few USB-A ports, HDMI, and SD card slots. Docking stations have their own power supply and use Thunderbolt or USB4 to provide multiple display outputs, Gigabit Ethernet, and upstream laptop charging. Docks use protocol tunneling for simultaneous video, data, and power over a single cable.
