A display technology that expands the range of brightness and color, requiring sufficient cable bandwidth to transmit.
HDR content uses 10-bit or 12-bit color depth and wider color spaces (DCI-P3, BT.2020) to produce brighter highlights and deeper shadows. HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ are common formats. Cables must support the additional bandwidth: HDMI 2.0 handles HDR at 4K@60Hz with 4:2:0 subsampling, while HDMI 2.1 allows full 4:4:4 HDR.
