Both ends carry the Mini DisplayPort connector, so this cable links two Mini-DP devices directly rather than adapting to a full-size port. Typical arrangements include chaining older MacBooks into a Thunderbolt Display or driving a Mini-DP monitor from a Surface Pro. The DP 1.2 link supports 4K at 60 Hz at up to 17.28 Gbps of HBR2 bandwidth. Because both connectors are identical, no conversion occurs; the cable is a straight Mini-DP-to-Mini-DP path.
