Si un cable Ethernet tiene blindaje metálico alrededor de sus pares de cables para bloquear interferencias.
UTP (Par Trenzado Sin Blindaje) es estándar para la mayoría de instalaciones domésticas y de oficina. STP y S/FTP añaden blindajes de lámina o trenzado para entornos con mucha interferencia electromagnética (fábricas, cerca de líneas eléctricas). Los cables blindados requieren conexión a tierra adecuada o pueden aumentar el ruido.
