La terminación adecuada sigue los estándares de cableado T568A o T568B — mezclarlos crea un crossover. La mala terminación es la causa más común de fallas en cables Ethernet: los pares destrenzados deben mantenerse bajo 13mm, y cada cable debe hacer contacto sólido con los pines del conector. Los cables blindados requieren conectar el blindaje a tierra en los puntos de terminación.
