An embedded chip in USB-C cables that communicates the cable's power and data capabilities.

E-marker chips are required in USB-C cables rated above 60W or supporting speeds above USB 2.0. The chip tells the charger and device what the cable can safely handle, preventing overheating. Cheap cables without e-markers may limit power to 60W.
