EMI Shielding

Physical & Construction

Conductive barriers in a cable that block electromagnetic interference from external sources and prevent the cable from radiating noise.

EMI shielding uses braided copper, foil wrapping, or both to create a Faraday cage around signal conductors. High-speed cables (HDMI 2.1, USB4, 10GbE) need better shielding because faster signals are more susceptible to interference. Shielded cables must be properly grounded at both ends; ungrounded shielding can act as an antenna and make interference worse.
