Longer cables suffer more signal attenuation. USB4 at 40 Gbps is limited to ~0.8m passive; HDMI 2.1 starts degrading above 3m; Ethernet Cat6a maintains 10 Gbps to 100m. Active cables and fiber optic variants extend usable length at higher cost.
