Phantomspeisung läuft über dasselbe XLR-Kabel wie das Audiosignal und eliminiert die Notwendigkeit einer separaten Stromversorgung. Sie ist transparent für dynamische Mikrofone, die sie einfach ignorieren. Versehentliches Senden von Phantomspeisung an Bändchenmikrofone kann diese beschädigen. Symmetrische Kabel (XLR) sind erforderlich; unsymmetrische Kabel können Phantomspeisung nicht sicher übertragen.
