Sample Rate

Audio

The number of audio samples captured per second, measured in kHz, determining the frequency range of digital audio.

CD-quality audio uses 44.1 kHz (capturing frequencies up to ~22 kHz). Professional studios use 96 or 192 kHz for headroom during editing. Higher sample rates require more bandwidth: a USB audio interface at 192 kHz needs significantly more data throughput than at 44.1 kHz. USB 2.0 bandwidth is sufficient for most multichannel audio.
