The loss of voltage along a cable's length due to electrical resistance in the conductors.
Thinner or longer cables have higher resistance, causing more voltage drop. A 2-meter 28AWG USB cable may drop 0.5V under load, reducing charging speed significantly. Thicker conductors (lower AWG) and shorter cable lengths minimize voltage drop. USB PD compensates by negotiating higher initial voltages.
